SCOTTISH TOOLING

The final wood chips have floated to the floor, and the weary arms of the toolers have long gone. After a full day, a tense final and plenty of dry tooling action at the wall, here is a few snaps! Results up asap!

REMINDER: Scottish Tooling this weekend!

This is a reminder that preparations are under way for this weekends Scottish Tooling Series! If anyone has an old hose pipe or tyres hanging around the garden shed, and wants rid of it, bring them down to the centre!

For the event it is best to register before hand, through this link:-

http://www.scottishtoolingseries.co.uk/compreg/

It is possible to register on the day, but it saves £5 and a lot of hassle pre-registering!

The Facebook event for it is here, click attend and like the Transition Extreme page!

On Friday the wall is interrupted as route setting will be taking places. The bouldering wall will be closed all day and routes will be disturbed and will close totally from 16.00 onwards. We apologize for this, but hope you understand.

Kids clubs and adult learn to climb still running!

We hope to see everyone down on Saturday!

Patagonia

For those hiding from the grey weather and need pysche to train, check out this amazing video from John Griffith.

Its been up a while, but is perfect inspiration for those dreaming of there next North Face, or building up the training in preparation for the coming winter.

If anyone has any training articles that have been particularly useful, bring in a copy as we are compiling a resource for climbers to use when resting between red points or boulder problems. It will be housed in the new boulder comments book (rapidly filling up with grade debate...). Bring them down!

The end of the October holidays

October Camps
We have finally finished a hectic two weeks of October camps. Tom Stork and Tom Russell have both undertaken lots of climbing sessions with the camp members. Everyone had a great time, with lots of exhausted faces at the end of the day (especially the instructors).

Bouldering Wall
Tom Russell has been continuing his revamp of the bouldering wall. It now boasts:-

-Two new easy routes on the 45 degree board. These are perfect for people either looking for some first time problems on the steeper boarders, or for endurance training. The routes can be easily joined together by downclimbing the problems, as they start from the same spot. Tom Stork can confirm this is very pumpy!

-A crimps circuit on the 45, follow the tape anti-clockwise, keep going for as long as possible!

-More kids boulder problems taped up.

Events
Today is the Glenmore Lodge round of the Scottish Tooling series, and next week is us! We have been hard at work stocking up on lots of bits and pieces to make the event as successful as last years. See in centre for the posters and try cram in some last minute fig fours and pull ups!

Tim Rankin

Once again, as part of out ongoing project of highlighting some of the best photography of climbing in Aberdeen, we introduce a face well known around the wall. Tim Rankin's Flickr site is a perfect resource for those climbing in the area as Tim was and still is a massive part of the development of the North East scene. Check it out!

Core Climbing

We've had a very exciting delivery from Core Climbing today. This is what they have to say about themselves,

"Core Climbing was formed in 2008 by three Sheffield-based climbers,
Tim Marsh, Stephen Royle and Leo Moger. Having the legendary Peak district on our doorstep is a great inspiration, as are many years spent climbing and travelling. Capturing the essence of all the different venues and rock types we visited, our climbing holds bring the outdoors onto your climbing wall. "

Another busy week

Tom Russell and Oli Boyes have once more been hard at work route setting in the wall. With several new routes from 5-6c added, hopefully there is something to please everyone!

We will be bringing back the comments book for the routes, so feel free to share your opinions (nicely...) regarding the routes. The team all work really hard to keep things fresh and dynamic so we would like to hear your views!

We will also be introducing an open book for comments regarding bouldering. This to allow you to express your opinions on the style and grade of the routes, as well was what you want to see in the future. We want to hear from you!

Following on from last week, the TE blog would like to introduce the work of another regular wall climber Henning Wackerhage, a winter beast! His UKC gallery is a great source of photos and inspiration! Also have a look at his blog.

TE Photographers: Neil Morrison

As part of the revamp, we will be showcasing and linking to some of the best photographers that frequent Transition Extreme!

First up is the undisputed champion of the veterans category, Neil Morrison. A well know face at the wall and editor of the classic North East Outcrops guidebook (a must for any Aberdonian climber), his Flickr gallery is a great resource for scoping out crags or beta for some of Scotland's classic routes.

Setting and the STS

Tom Russell and Stuart Stronach have been hard at work on Friday route setting. Working at the same time, the holds were flying in!

Two new 6c’s and a new 7a have gone up, perfect to start the winter training regime with.

Tom Stork set on Thursday with a new 6b, and a number of 5’s and 6a’s have been planned for the next week, so the drills have had little rest.

Plans are under way for the third round of the Scottish Tooling series (http://www.scottishtoolingseries.co.uk/) held at Transition Extreme. Check out the Facebook event for it and RSVP!
