Transition Extreme recently completed the highly successful Return to Northfield project based at the Northfield skate park, in conjunction with the Community Learning and Development team in Northfield. Transition staff worked with the young people of the Northfield area to better utilise their skate park and identify young custodians. An average of 24 young people attended our weekly sessions throughout June/July 2011, and 38 young people, along with family and local community partners attended our end of project ‘Jam’ on 24th June. The local city warden team attended to show their support of the programme and where impressed at how well the skatepark had been maintained. Free passes to access the skatepark where awarded to individuals who showed commitment and a consistent positive attitude throughout the 8 weeks. The aim of the project was to attract the youth of Northfield to the skate park and ensure the park was being used appropriately. Transition realised the potential of the park and wanted to develop it into a respected Aberdeen skate spot, providing the area with a greatly needed facility for young people. The objective of Return to Northfield is to offer young people in the area guidance and support to utilise their skate park to its true potential |
