Boulder comp start time:
OK we made a boo boo. The comp should have started at 18:30 and not 17:30. Who needs 4 hours after all???!!
We will start at 17:30 but if you're in alter don't worry at all as you can pay in and pick up a registration card at reception at any point in the night.
If folks struggle to get here for the early start we'll start closer to 18:30.

Reminder for this Thursday and Friday: Bouldering comp
Just a reminder folks that the first round of the bouldering league is taking place on Friday.
This means that on Thursday night (4th) there will be some disruption on the bouldering wall as we begin to strip the problems off. We will strip panel by panel from 8.30pm.
On Friday (5th) the bouldering wall and slab of the Dream Tower will be closed all day. The rest of the wall will be open from 10am to 3pm.
From 3pm onwards the entire wall will be closed for setting. The comp begins at 17:30 and will run until 21:30.
The bouldering wall will be closed for re-setting on Sunday 7th October with a whole new batch of great problems being put up.
See you Friday!!!

Winter Bouldering League 2012 - 2013
Yes! It's that time of year again...
Here's the dates for the bouldering league this winter:
Round 1 5th October
Round 2 9th November
Round 3 7th December
Round 4 11th January
Round 5 15th February
Each comp starts at 17:30 with entry to the wall from 17:00. They end at 21:30 with raffles/prize throwing up until 22:00. The price for each round is the normal admission price (passes can be used) plus £3.50 comp registration which goes towards prizes.
The league is aimed at everyone aged 14+ from beginners and those looking simply to come along and have fun on some wacky problems, through to intermediates looking to improve and the hardened boulderers out there looking for some exiting challenges. The aim is fun and everyone should be prepared for a mixture of serious and silly problems...
Scoring is achieved by each participant entering their own scores at each round which are then collected and counted by staff. All categories except Fun will have a small first place goodie at each round and will be in the running for the main prizes at the end of the league taking into account their best 4 rounds. You can attend as many or as few rounds as you can or want but if you're looking to fight for a top standing then you'll need to attend at least 4.
Each category attempts twenty problems and will receive points for completing the problem in the following manner:
1st attempt: 10 points
2nd attempt 7 points
3rd attempt 4 points
Any other attempt 1 point
This year sees the return of Duncan's dilemma which is an extra problem which pays out £30 cash to the fist to complete it. You can attempt the dilemma as many times as you want so you'll not have to worry about flashing it. To make things a little more exciting we're offering £30 to the first male and £30 to the first female to send it on the night.
Rules for the competitions are posted on the night so if you're unsure or new to competitions then you'll be in good hands as there will be staff on hand to help out and plenty of friendly climbers!

Route setting underway
After a day's hard work on the bouldering wall it has now been filled up with a variety of easy to hard problems. We'll set some more this week and get the descriptions written up tomorrow.
Routes on the wall are primed for re-sets too now that the days are a little quieter to get on with changing out the old routes. We will be re setting both on the old walls and the Dream tower to mix things up. Please be aware that between the hours of 10am and 3pm Monday to Friday every week there may well be setting going on which will mean a number of routes out of action.
This week line 22 (Double overhangs) have been re-set with some hard routes 7a and up along with line 2 (vertical wall near the training board) will be re-set with 5's to 6a+'s.
Line 39 on the dream tower slab has been re-set already with a Brown 5 and a Green 6c.

The Final will take place between 17:00 and 20:00 on Sunday 26th August. Approximately 10 from each category will be invited (those with the highest scores). The final will consist of 10 problems per category to be attempted over 2 hours. These will be scored in the same fashion as the series problems (points per hold).
