Mountain Equipment Presents: Dave McLeod's Lecture Series

Sunday 8th March

Dave will be in transition for the evening to deliver two Lectures consisting of:

5pm 'Training For Climbing'

"The lecture on training for climbing will be my first of this type. Many years ago when I’d not long started climbing I heard that the famous training guru Marius Morstad was giving a lecture on training for climbing at the Kendal Mountain Festival. I had to go to it! It made me go to the festival for the first time and I loved hearing what Marius had to say about a subject I was massively interested in. So now I’ve been immersed in this subject ever since I’m going to try and do something similar and pass on the most important elements that I’ve seen help climbers continue to break into new grades as the years go on."

7pm 'Safe is Risky'

"In ‘Safe is Risky’ I talk about my two year preparation for climbing Echo Wall, centred around how my attitude to risk in climbing and life developed and allowed me to be 100% sure I was ready for the hardest trad route in the UK."

Having been to Dave's lectures before i can highly reccomend coming along to hear what he has to say as i'm sure it will be a great insight into his exploits, experiences and expectations...

Tickets available from http://www.davemcleod.com/ or Transition Extreme. They're £8 each or £12 for both so hurry as they're going like hot cakes!

2008-2009 Winter Bouldering League round up

Through snow and hail, wind and rain the competitors came to battle it out; and what a battle it was...

Last Friday saw the final of the League despite wintery conditions making travel hazardous (funny that with it being winter...).

With turn outs from 45 to 75 throughout the rounds the hard work of the setters and organisers is definitely worth it when we see folks enjoying themselves as much as they did. The fun comp had the most entrants and the Junior Boys had a bigger turn out too. The standard of climbing as a whole was superb with some real fancy moves being pulled off. In the end it came down to a hardened few to fight it out for the winning places. And unsurprisingly there were a few ties in the scores.
Special mention should go to Abbey Niven for taking part in the Womens category which added some spice to the competition.

John Brown managaed to snag the £50 cash prize for my problem only 45 minutes into the comp and getting it ont the first go too!! Well done John.

Those who have equal positions in the final standings agreed to have a 'climb off' to decide the final places at the Bouldering Masters which has been rescheduled for the 28th March. Further details to follow on this comp...

The final results for the league were:

1st (equal) Men: Ally Coull & John Brown
3rd Men: Marcus Bean
1st Vet: Neil Morrison

1st Female: Anna Wells
2nd Female: Eva Sparreboom
3rd Female: Abbey Niven

1st Junior: Rhys Maslen
2nd (equal) Junior: Liam Watson & Scott Wilson

Well done to all and I hope to see you at the comp in March!

Oops... Here's the Bouldering League Round 4 results...

Okok, mince for brains i know...

Some info on the scoring:
As per the rules of the league each competitor must attend 4 out of 5 rounds to be eligible for a league standing. Each competitor will be awarded points for their standing in each round. For example 1st place in a round will earn you 100 points, 2nd place; 99 points etc. etc. Those having only attended 3 rounds will not be allocated these scores so to keep the standings fair to those who are eligible.

The standing at this point is VERY close. And when i say very i mean ridonculousley! Its not even just the case for one category; they're all extremely close with a lot of battling to be done on the final round!

Whether you're competing, climbing for fun or just coming to watch make sure you can make it as you'll not want to miss out as it proves to be a spectacle of some extravagant climbing!

Here's the Round 4 results regardless:
